Upholstery Cleaning San Diego
Like wall-to-wall carpeting, upholstery is one of the biggest investments you'll make in home improvement, which is why it's important to protect your investment by keeping your upholstery clean. And, like your carpeting, the main way of maintaining your upholstery is vacuuming it at least once a week. Regular vacuuming will reduce the amount of dust and dirt that settles in your upholstery. Dry dirt and sand acts as an abrasive to your delicate upholstered fabrics, causing cuts in the fibers. This will cause premature aging and wear. Use a crevice tool to get into the folds and an upholstery attachment for the flatter surfaces, when vacuuming.
For a quick pickup of a clump of pet hair without pulling out the vacuum, try a dryer sheet. The static of the air will stick to it immediately, making it easy to pick up. You can also deodorize your upholstery by sprinkling a little baking soda on it, letting it sit for a few hours or overnight then vacuuming it up completely. Baking soda does a great job of neutralizing many odors.
Another important step in maintaining your upholstery is getting spills up immediately. Blot spills up with white paper towels or a clean white terrycloth towel. Work from the outside in to keep spills from spreading. Typically, a mixture of a colorless, mild, vegetable oil based dishwashing liquid and warm water will work on most fabrics for spot cleaning. Check the label on your furniture to make sure you can use water to spot clean. Then, test on an inconspicuous area before cleaning larger areas. For a quick cleanup, try a baby wipe. You'll be surprised at how well that works.
Regular professional cleanings is the third step in maintaining your upholstery. Deep cleaning can effectively and economically extend the life of your upholstery by removing contaminants such as household dust, dust mites, pollen and cigarette smoke, which will improve your indoor air quality. Upholstered furniture should be cleaned once every 18 to 24 months to cut down on allergens and germs that lead to illness. The trained professionals at Global Carpet know just what cleaning solutions to use for your delicate upholstered fabrics and how much to use. We know how to get out stubborn spots and stains, including pet stains.
To help protect your furniture from future spills and pet accidents, you should have us apply our DuPont Teflon® Carpet Protector. DuPont Teflon® Carpet Protector safe and suitable for use on upholstery made from most cotton, nylon, polyester and blends of these fibers. It works by forming an invisible barrier on furniture fabric fibers, which keeps dirt and stains on the surface, giving you more time to clean them up. Teflon® carpet protector is free from Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and solvents. It leaves no unpleasant odor. It is completely safe for your family and your pets. It's even safe around your household plants.
